ST. JOHN — A rollover crash involving a water truck on Centerline Road in St. John claimed the life of a passenger Saturday afternoon, according to the V.I. Police Department, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police said that at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, units were dispatched to Centerline Road in the area of Grunwall following a report of an automobile collision involving a water truck.

According to the VIPD, the truck was traveling eastward on Centerline Road when the operator lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip onto its right side on the asphalt. The vehicle then slid across the roadway and went over an embankment, police said.

Emergency response teams from Fire Emergency Medical Services and St. John Rescue extricated both the driver and the passenger from the overturned vehicle.

Police said the driver and passenger were transported to Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center (RLSH) for medical treatment, with transport conducted by ambulance and ambulance boat.

The passenger later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

The driver’s condition was not released.

The VIPD said the incident remains under investigation by the Motor Carrier Unit and the Traffic Investigation Unit.
